Swing Bridge in Operation

Well, it is just my luck that the day I decide to drive to Cape May for this scavenger hunt, the bridge was in the closed position. This swing bridge is hardly ever closed. The bridge spans the Cape May Canal. It is used by Seashore Lines for their train routes to Cape May.

The swing bridge had been out of commission for about 15 years. When I was a boy one could hop a train off of Lafayette Street and go to Philly. These days the the train only goes to Tuckahoe.

Today there was a crew on the bridge. I could not tell what they were doing, but it appeared to be some sort of inspection and there was no telling how long they would be there.

I have found documentation of the swing bridge to satisfy the requirement. I still cannot believe it was closed. Seeing the bridge closed is unusual.

Third photograph down shows a train going over the bridge. There is a blurb also that identifies this as a swing bridge.
