The cohort I was a member of for my graduate work met to hand in our theses and projects. Afterwards, we all gathered at the Big Apple for ocktails and dinner. The first round was on our professor.

The Big Apple is on Rt. 40 along a section I rarely travel although it is very near an area I spend a lot of time in. I was pleasantly surprised by both the atmoshere and the food. This is my kind of casual dining.

The bar is prominent at the Big Apple. It appears to be the local hangout for the working man. Outside the bar area are a number of dinner tables neatly arranged on the the wood floor. Our group of 10 took up a center table. There are five or six beers on tap including Yuengling. Then menu was large. The Big Apple offers nightly specials. The list ranged from fish and chicken to steak and pasta. Specials topped out at $17.95. The ragular menu, however, is far more reasonably priced. Sandwiches, wraps, pastas, etc. adorn the six pages. I opted for the Special Italian sub. This was made with prosciutto and roasted red peppers. In addition it was topped with a rich balsamic vinegar. The sandwich was accompanied with french fries, a crisp dill pickle spear, and a decent side of cole slaw. The sandwich was large enough for me to eat only half and bring the other half home.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful for our group of celebrants. For a place I had never heard of, I enjoyed myself immensely and look forward to returning for another course.

If there is a drawback to the Big Apple Cafe, it was the temperature of the restroom. It felt as though every window was opened, but none was.
