Never Serenade an Okapi

I’ve been to one opera in my life and it was a Puccini-written one. So, a few months ago I began seeking a viking hat. After striking out, someone suggested a party store. D’oh! The local place wanted to $30. Bah! I found another store down toward the shore that said they usually had them in stock. We eventually made it down there sometime before Christmas. All they hadwere children’s sizes. “So what?” I thought.
I have been suggesting going to the Philadelphia Zoo ever since. Each weekend it has not worked out. But when I saw it was going to be 60° today, I stated I was going to take Beetle to the zoo. My decided she would finally join us.
It has been 35 years since I have been to this zoo. Seriously! We had a blast! We finally found Kesho a 12-year old okapi. As we approached, he was dancing about playing for the crowd and was up close. Sigh . . . it took a minute to get ready and by the time we were ready for photographs, Kesho wanted nothing to do with the visitors. We tried several times while we were there to get Kesho to cooperate. We are of the belief that okapis may have a grudge against all opera composers.
Of course, my wife was horrified I was in public with a child’s viking hat on. She did not want to play along at all. Silly Gert! But she was a good trouper and took the photographs for this.
I enjoyed this hunt very much! Thank you.
Long live Giacomo!
