The Anatomy of a Tax
The silver lining in the protracted budget debate is that we have produced a guaranteed revenue source to provide substantial property tax relief
Senate President Richard J. Codey, D-Essex
Think about that for a moment.
Got it! Okay, the “guaranteed revenue source” for “substantial property tax relief” is what?
Taxes!
This is how New Jersey politicians do their job. “We will overtax you when you purchase your bread and milk to return a little bit to you because we overtax you on your property.”
Dear reader, is there any doubt that guaranteeing this revenue source will cost you more?
We asked New Jerseyans to accept a sales tax increase
Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts Jr., D-Camden
When were we asked to accept the sales tax increase? Was it at 2:00 AM on 8 July when the legislature pushed through $300 million in pork?
It hasn’t been decided how lawmakers will spend the money
I love how our government works. Decide to tax us to the tune of $600 million (that’s only one-half of the sales tax increase) and then not know what you’re going to do with it.
Folks, this is why this money should never travel from your wallet to Trenton. Furthermore, do not vote to agree that this money has to continue. It is ludicrous!
What does Governor Corzine want to do with the money? We have already discussed the assinine bribe to local municipalities to consolidate. But that is not all Corzine wants.
School funding, including increasing funding for middle-income school districts while maintaining heavy state funding to poor, urban districts.
There is only $600 million we are talking about. I know I sound cavalier about that amount of money, but considering that would only fund about three Abbott districts this year, let’s be realistic about what it can buy from the government level.
Corzine wants to maintain funding the Abbotts and then add funds to many other (most other?) school districts with this money.
He also wants to expand the sales tax even broader than what you apparently were asked accept.
And just to show why the New Jersey GOP will not see the governor’s desk any time soon, Guy Gregg, R-Morris misstates the issue:
Any property tax relief program that does not seek to contain the growth of government will fail as taxes will continue to grow to meet the bureaucracy’s insatiable demand for more revenue.”
Contain the growth of government?????????
Are you off your rocker? We cannot afford to contain growth. We need to slash government now!
Dear reader, yes, my ire is up. It’s just that these fools do not stop. They tax you and then tell us that we accepted it. They want to guarantee that they continue to tax us and make it sound like they are doing us a favor. Please!
No more money! None. Not a penny. That’s how the government works. It told school districts this year that. Now, let’s tell Trenton that.
