As mentioned in the description, this is an easy one. I knew where I needed to go when you posted this in May. The thing is I am three hours away. I have actually never been to this spot. I usually hang out down the block when I am in the area. But I wanted to get up here for this. Numerous times I have had this one planned out, only to opt for a different day. Getting to NYC is a big trip.

Things have been going well and I am on a four-day holiday. The chores are done, Gert is content, and I was able to arrange a “big day”. There are some other things I wanted to do out this way, but this was the anchor for the day. The plan had me driving here first thing in the morning and then working my way back. Well, I must have been tired as I exited the NJ Turnpike on the wrong exit. I knew better, but 287 and 278 to the weary traveler are alike. Rather than just admit my mistake and go over the Outerbridge, I kept looking for the way to correct my error. After wasting valuable time, I decided there was no way to do so and jumped back on the Turnpike.

Sun was now up and I thought I needed something positive, so I stopped off for a couple terracaches near the Verrazano Bridge. Once my self esteem was restored, it was across the bridge and off to Queens. My journeys are always adventures. My driving notes were left at home, so I was driving blind. Because of the other landmark I am familiar with, I knew I would get there, I just wasn’t positive if I would be efficient about the approach. :)

I missed my turn because there was no way to cross three lanes for the little sign that appeared. I got off at the next exit. It was early enough that it mattered not. I passed the big place and continued down the road. I pulled in next to three younger folks who were preparing to videotape a segment near the spot. I walked right to the “gobe” for that is what I knew. I then scouted the statue. Aha! Now I see. I have always wanted to go there and had tickets when I was in college, but let my roommate enjoy the fun.

It seems whenever I need to snap a photograph/video, the sun is always in my face. :( I took my coordinates and walked around. There’s a lot here. Of course, construction is now underway so when everything is busting it is going to be an absolute mess around here. There were a couple planes that flew overhead.

Thank you so much for bringing me here. I had a splendid day in NYC and this was one of the highlights.
