This one keeps popping up on the runs I put together, yet each time out, I never head over here. I will say from the maps I never quite had a firm idea where this one was. Of course, after finding it and driving north I knew right where I was. Indeed, I have driven by this numerous times without realizing it. This is a good example of geocaching connecting the dots. It sure did with this cache.

I am happy I didn’t read the logs beforehand. It sounds like a dreadful experience. Today, for me, nothing could have been finer. It was a wonderful cache for me.

The morning was rolling along: it was sunny, the sky was gorgeous, and I was happy. The Dead was rocking on the iPod.

I pulled over near the gate. The hardest part of the cache was negotiating the first two puddles by foot. There are lots of briars in the area and I imagine in warmer months this is a God-awful cache to complete; not, however, on 16 February this year.

The trail is dotted with hunter’s tape. I am not certain when someone was last out here though. No footprints and things looked undisturbed. The hike back was slightly under a half mile. I walked around a puddle near the end which exposed a downed tree. That certainly looked promising. And it was.

Gus dog hid two caches before disappearing. I have enjoyed both. He used a Gladware container for this. Its lid is slightly broken. I do not believe water can get in yet, but it’s a matter of time.

This cache hasn’t been found very much. Each before me complained of bugs and other nasty stuff or pouring rain. For me, it was a good cache and just what the doctor ordered. I was jamming to the Grateful Dead’s Going Down the Road Feeling Bad from 86-03-25, a concert I attended.

After logging in and taking some photographs, I saw there were coordinates for a nearby elm. I am not knowledgeable about flora and fauna of the area, as plenty of folks around can attest to. So, I am not certain I saw a “magnificent elm” or not. There was no tree I saw that looked like the Wikipedia example. I think some of the trees may have been elms, however.

Well if you go down to Deep Elem, put your money in your shoes
Women in Deep Elem got them Deep Elem blues
Chorus
Oh sweet mama, your daddy’s got them Deep Elem blues
Oh sweet mama, your daddy’s got them Deep Elem blues

Oh sweet mama, today had begun so well!
