Obama’s Bow, A Lie

President Obama’s European tour sparked much partisanship when many on the right criticized Obama for bowing to Saudi Arabian King Abdullah.

Perhaps I am not well versed on protocol, but if bowing is customary in the culture, I am not particularly offended by our president bowing.  When the heads of state get together and have their photographs taken, they often wear clothing of the host country as President Bush did when APEC met in Japan a few years ago.

With that, I pretty much ignored the kerfuffle the bowing instance sparked.

Now it’s being reported that the Obama Administration is denying that the president bowed.

The White House is denying that the president bowed to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia at a G-20 meeting in London, a scene that drew criticism on the right and praise from some Arab outlets.

“It wasn’t a bow. He grasped his hand with two hands, and he’s taller than King Abdullah,” said an Obama aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Puhleeeeeessse.

My mother shared with me long ago that public figures are taken down more often not because of the initial issue, but rather the cover-up.  It’s pretty hard to argue with that perspective.

The bow was minor.  Stating it wasn’t a bow requires me to suspend reality.  Take a look.  You make the call:

Can you swallow the spin that President Obama did not bow?

I don’t care if he bowed. I care that he is going to deny that he bowed. I am all of a sudden reminded of President Clinton . . .
