Is Magazzu Serious?
While publicly proclaiming Cumberland County is facing a budget hole of between $4- and $8 million, Freeholder Magazzu found a way to tunnel another $78,000+ to Triad Associates. Triad Associates employs Michael Zumpino. Zumpino is a frequent contributor to state senator Jeff Van Drew as well as assemblymen Milam and Albano. In addition, Triad employs Gerald Velazquez (former EZ director) and Stephen Kehs (former county executive).
What did Triad do for this money?
According to Velaquez, Triad will present a proposal that:
would coordinate the social aspects of the county with the other aspects, such as land use planning, and put them into one cohesive plan
Huh?
The taxpayer dollars spent came in a resolution that was not announced on 10 December. This was after Magazzu proclaimed the budget hole the county faces. This expenditure came at the very end of an 18-month window in which the 2010-2020 [sic] “The Future is Now” Plan is active.
What is that plan? Nothing more than a
dialogue on what the county ought to look like during the next 10 years
according to Magazzu. That’s right, a $78,000+ conversation on the taxpayer dime with political allies.
A week prior to this, Magazzu stated:
“We’re trying to deal with a lot of moving parts at this point,” Magazzu said. “It’s a very serious tone. I think people get that these are serious times. We have two twin goals: No layoffs and no tax increases.”
Is he serious? Where does the $78,000 fit into that goal? Do you believe Magazzu?
