Down and Out in Detroit

I’ve always had a thing for Detroit. I am not sure why. It’s not that I like the city, just that I have been fascinated with it. Until last spring I had never been there and then only at the airport. The airport is wonderful!

Detroit is on hard times. It has been since the 1968 riots. My mother visited Detroit in recent years. She doesn’t have much positive to report. I read an article (WSJ?) a few months ago about an art coop that purchased an entire city block of houses for $10,000. There was no plumbing as the copper had been stripped. The plan was to refurbish these homes as green homes. I was so impressed I suggested we speculate in Detroit. For the prices of homes there, perhaps we could make a mint when Detroit actually rebounds. The thing is, this isn’t the first time Detroit has been primed for a comeback. Somehow it never makes it.

Steven Crowder went and visited. He put together the following video. There are some partisan shots that may be a bit unfair. Nevertheless, I think the premise he posits is interesting. Enjoy!
