Dear John
My daughter has taken the Dear John letter in a new direction.
Beetle likes to write. All weekend she was writing and drawing. There were papers everywhere. It wasn’t until this morning that I saw there had been a theme; Beetle had made valentines for her classmates. Oh, her grandmother would be so proud that she made them by hand.
She showed me the last one she created. It was to her friend John. It said I love you.
What?
I don’t know who this John boy is, but I assure you, my daughter will not love him. Grrrr . . .
When I questioned my cherub about this she responded, “But Daddy, he’s such a cutie.”
My daughter is five. I am not going to survive at this rate.

Wait until she comes home from school and her first crush has dropped her like a bad penny. Or even worse, when her boyfriend of 3 years breaks up with her on Valentine’s Day, and she’s 500 miles away. It never gets easy my friend.

No, I understand. I truly do.
While I will lose this, I am doing something for all men. We have a family blog. On it, I have documented my daughter’s life. Some day some boy is going to be fool enough to ask to marry Beetle. At that point he will be forced to read that blog. All of it. He will know what my daughter is. At that point, if he is still willing to marry her, he will have my blessing.
That blog is the damn manual that all men have longed for: the one that tells how women tick. My SIL will have the first book.
Some men go down in history as great statesmen. Some for their inventions. Me? I’ll be remembered for unlocking the key to women. Ha!
