Apparently the Apocalypse Is Coming

Empty ShelvesI think it was in 1996 when we had 30″ of snow. I lived alone in an apartment at the time. There was a state of emergency, and the roads were closed for two or three days. I was not prepared. I recall eating the last can of corn I had and realizing that if the emergency lasted another day, I was going to be knocking on someone’s door to borrow something to eat.

Not much has changed in the 14 years since. Every time Hurricane Schwartz proclaims the storm of the century is upon us, things seem to peter out. Nevertheless, this year certainly seems to be the exception. We have had some snow already; it sounds like we’re going to have some more this weekend.

Empty ShelvesTrying a change of pace, I went out shopping this evening to stock up for the weekend. We have food at home, but there are a few new recipes we’re going to try out this weekend, as usual, and needed to pick up some ingredients.

Apparently, I was too late. There was no produce, meat, or bread at Shop Rite this evening. Surprisingly, there were milk and eggs. I got most of what I wanted save some ground beef and bread. We’ll scurry to get some tomorrow before the blizzard arrives. Good thing our case of honeybells arrived last evening. Fresh Florida juice has been exploding in my mouth all day!

At least the children will have milk this weekend. :)
