How much can one spend (not a gift for the spouse) without discussing it with the spouse?

Just curious . . .

The Busy Season

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Each June I am spent. I try to explain to my extended family that the last month or so of school is a whirlwind. There is just so much that goes on that it is impossible to keep up with everything.

About 10 day ago I noticed we had entered the busy season. To add to the always crowded school stuff this year, we have both children playing baseball, we put down hardwood throughout the house, and we are refinancing. Even still, this weekend saw a 50th anniversary party for my in-laws yesterday, a mass for them to renew their vows today, and a double birthday party for my niece and my sister-in-law.

Yikes!

All the while we are trying to put the house back together, get ready for a yard sale, and book our vacation. I still have to make butterfly wings for Beetle tonight. And, I have filled up my hard drive yet again. It’s a neverending (so it seems) list of tasks. It will end, of course with Beetle’s recital and all the festivities that surround that.

Sheesh . . . I am exhausted just writing this.

Back to work.

It’s a Merry Christmas to me! I finally picked up a deck box that Gert had wanted to get me. It’s 132 gallons. I love it! . . . I like this DIY sous-vide set-up. I am going to have to give it a try . . . Neat diagram of smoking ribs on a kettle . . . How ’bout them Flyers! Awesome series. Congratulations. G’luck against the Habs . . . Thankfully, NJASK testing is done. The students worked so hard this week. I am proud of them . . . The new lighted Millville sign does not excite me . . . 50 years ago today my in-laws tied the knot . . . It is so difficult finding shoes that fit my wide feet. Finally got a comfortable pair this evening . . . I am loving the retro uniforms the Phillies and the Brewers are wearing this evening . . . Looking forward to putting the furniture back where it belongs this weekend . . .

My First Omelet

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Tonight I read Cate’s post about making omelets. I’m a big fan of omelets. My love of them was certainly advanced while working at the Mad Batter. There perfect omelets are the norm. A salamander certainly helped. I regularly use the oven to help puff up my omelets.

Omelets are definitely a treat. Julia Child popularized this breakfast.

I am one who likes stuff in my omelets. A good western omelet is just fine with me. I will toss whatever I have on hand to spruce up the first meal of the day.

Interestingly, my first omelets were much different. Mom used to make them when I was a boy. I don’t recall myself being particularly picky. As with many children, I shunned vegetables, but I ate foods. Perhaps I am not remembering correctly, but those first omelets were filled with . . . are you ready? Really, it is disgusting just thinking about it. Mom used to fill my omelets with grape jelly. ‘Tis true! Nasty, I know.

I recall loving them. Today, I cringe at the thought. Perhaps Mom will chime in and enlighten me as to how this dish came to be. I would rather my children not eat omelets than to eat them filled with jelly. Yuck!

Just thought I would share this memory with you. What foul food do you recall from your youth?

Conceal Carry

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Just in case you were interested, I was asked:

you never replied as to how you would feel knowing that a person is allowed to carry concealed (when virtually nobody in NJ can do that except cops and ex-cops) when that person has a public vendetta against you.

I don’t know.

While I have strong opinions, and I am sure I have ticked off plenty of people with my posts, I am unaware of anyone having a public vendetta against me. Even if I were aware of one, I suspect I wouldn’t know if that person had a conceal carry permit. And even if I were so bombastic to cause someone to have such a public vendetta where he permitted me to know that he carried, perhaps I would:

  1. think that reason prevails and not let that bother me, or
  2. if I truly thought the person was not “stable”, I would not publicly attack him

To each his own.
