The second of the three “Barbecue Days” (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day) was celebrated with the traditional smoked ribs. Five hours in a smoker does spare ribs well (over hickory and apple). I diced the trimmings and added them to my beans. They smoked beneath the ribs catching the drippings throughout. Awesome!
In addition, I had marinated some Roadside Chicken last evening. Usually we have this with thighs, but i opted for legs this go-around. Also tossed on some brats. Yummm . . . brats!
The meal was rounded out with sweet potatoes, asparagus, peppers, and onions. Good stuff! We also had some sweet corn from Ingraldi’s. It was fabulous. The corn is wonderful this year. Gert made the flag cake above. Tasty.
We had the water slide up on this hot day. Gert’s brother came over and we played Wii when the heat took its toll.
This is what summer vacation is all about. Life is good.
Hey Michelle, would love to be able to comment directly on your blog. Have been looking to do so for years, but I never see registration open. Anyhow, your Filipino-style BBQ chicken and pork looks good. If you want a great recipe to use sriracha on, try this.
Could you imagine seeing someone on television telling this today? I get choked up every time this is sung. Things have changed, but the United States still prospers 234 years later. Happy birthday, dear country. We love you!
Hat tip to Wizbang! for reminding me of this video.
I am no fan of Sean Hannity. I explained to my sister recently, it’s not that he is wrong on the issues (he seems generally correct from the little I pay attention to him), it’s that he is brutish. But there I was yesterday listening to him. One of the presets on my Jeep’s radio is the Big Talker. Hannity is on from 3-6. I don’t usually listen to the radio, but when I do, talk radio gets more air time than music.
Hannity was pimping for ProFlowers.com. He kept telling how one could get a dozen flowers, a vase, and a box of chocolates for his Valentine for $29.95. I am always up for a deal, so I just tried to order the flowers.
There was no doubt that these would not be long-stemmed roses, but I was willing to compromise. So, the “special” that was touted is what I opted for. I had considered 20 tulips instead, but decided to go with the $29.95 special.
As I was completing the order, I got the funny suspicion there was going to be a delivery charge. I was correct. Holy smokes! That $29.95 “special” turned out to be $56.67. There was $10 for delivery and another $10 because I dared to want them delivered the day before Valentine’s Day. Add in care and handling and tax and I nearly doubled the order.
That is about what it costs for a dozen long-stemmed roses that are jazzed up. I can view inspect these flowers before I purchase them, not to mention support a local business. Needless to say, I canceled the ProFlowers.com order.
