Yesterday morning I was awoken by a telephone call from a buddy of mine. He wanted to know if I wanted to go to the Phillies game today. I am always up for a game. He had a bonus for me; these tickets were behind home plate with access to the Diamond Club.
Four of us drove up. Upon entering Citizens Bank Park through the club opening, we received wristbands. These permitted us entry to the Diamond Club. We dined on hamburgers in the air-conditioned restaurant. There was an awesome salad bar, a brisket station, a panini station, some other station, and the hamburgers. There was a massive bar there too.
We discovered that the clubs’ batting cages are visible from the restaurant. That was very kewl, although we basically missed out on the players.
After that we took a private elevator up to the Hall of Fame Club. Wow! There is a lot of Phillies and baseball memorabilia there. The highlight for me was Harry Kalas’s scorecard.
We then wandered out to our seats. We didn’t have far to go. Out the air conditioned restaurant were our seats. These were tremendous seats. The seats were padded. We had waiter service. There was plenty of leg room. The spectators here were all well behaved and pleasant.
Last week was scorching hot. Today was pleasant. It was warm out, but there was a pleasant breeze. And as Phil commented, every time the restaurant doors opened, we felt air conditioning.
Interestingly, a few days ago my sister ordered tickets to this game. We were able to see each other from our seats. I took this photograph of her taking a photograph of me (I think).
Being a day game, we got to see the second team. Schneider caught, Blanton pitched, Gload was in right, etc. We fell behind immediately. Fortunately, the steroid user Jason Giambi plays for the Rockies. He made two egregious errors in the third that permitted us to get ahead 3-2. We added a couple more runs late. We needed those because Mitch Williams Brad Lidge pitched the ninth. He gave up a two-run blast and then loaded the bases before getting the third out.
This was a wonderful day at the park . . . far better than the disaster a few weeks ago. Perhaps I just need to go to games with the guys sans children and sit in the really good seats to enjoy the park. I would definitely sit here any time.
It’s a Merry Christmas to me! I finally picked up a deck box that Gert had wanted to get me. It’s 132 gallons. I love it! . . . I like this DIY sous-vide set-up. I am going to have to give it a try . . . Neat diagram of smoking ribs on a kettle . . . How ’bout them Flyers! Awesome series. Congratulations. G’luck against the Habs . . . Thankfully, NJASK testing is done. The students worked so hard this week. I am proud of them . . . The new lighted Millville sign does not excite me . . . 50 years ago today my in-laws tied the knot . . . It is so difficult finding shoes that fit my wide feet. Finally got a comfortable pair this evening . . . I am loving the retro uniforms the Phillies and the Brewers are wearing this evening . . . Looking forward to putting the furniture back where it belongs this weekend . . .
Last evening during the Phillies game some knucklehead ran onto the field. A Philadelphia policeman brought the 17-year old down using a Taser.
I have no issue whatsoever with the use of a Taser.
I applaud this young man’s parents. This morning his father stated he hoped his son learned a lesson. Just now his mother apologized.
“I’m publically [sic] apologizing for my son,” said Amy Ziegler, mother of the teen Tasered by police in the outfield last night at Citizens Bank Park.
Mom doesn’t need to apologize, but she is taking the correct approach on this. I suspect this boy has been learning a lesson all day long.
A sure sign we are watering down things too far: Scrabble will now permit proper nouns. Heresy! . . . Sam Cutler opens up about Altamont. Love the interview, will read the book . . . Why is Bad Santa being shown in April? . . . Did you know that New Jersey has a law that requires parents to tell the state whether or not their children have health insurance? What business is that of the state if I am not applying for assistance? . . . Whoever is announcing the Reds-Marlins game on MLB Network tonight is boring. My goodness, there is just no pep in the announcing . . . I have become a Turbo Tax convert. Easy peasy . . . My Phillies are off to an awesome start. And the new saying is every fifth day is a Halladay . . . Missed out on going to Wine Library yesterday. ‘Twas 5k away, but decided to go the other direction. There’ll be another day . . . Rochester is a go for July! Approximately shutterspots on that loop . . . Speaking of spots, Gert gave the okay to drive to Florida and stop for shutterspots. She truly does love me! Ah, but she’ll get the dinner in Savannah she wants because I love her just as much . . . Yet another trip to Lake Placid is in the works too. The eCache household is doing its share to stimulate the economy this summer . . . BTW, the replacement AC/furnace we installed last year is the gift that keeps on giving. We received cash back from the state because of the energy efficiency to the tune of 52% of the cost. We also earned another $1500 off our federal taxes. All that coupled with lower energy bills. Yeah, we’re green . . . While at BJ’s, I learned that Verizon offers 15% off its cell plans for teachers. No, we cannot double it because we are both teachers. FWIW, they are being very evasive about the Incredible. As soon as it comes out, we’re smartphone owners . . .
Just took a look at the Groundspeak fora. It’s good that consistency prevails. The cesspool discussion area thrives. A namecalling thread egged on by Mr. O’Connell makes elementary school look mature in comparison . . . It seems that despite property taxes rising more than 9% in Chicago this year, the Obama’s house will only see a rise of 1% in property taxes . . . The nearest unfound shutterspot to me is 177km. After this week, I hope the nearest one will be 322km . . . the latest New Jersey gubernatorial poll has Christie up 47-41 over Corzine. While that is good, I hope that does not provide comfort for those who want to vote their conscience for Daggett at the expense of Christie. I am not a diehard Christie fan, but it is important to remove Corzine from office . . . Alas, it does not look good for my Phillies. The bats have been too quiet. I’ll give the Yankees credit for that. Our pitching has not been spectacular either, but the bats are the main concern . . . FWIW, my children put such a smile on my face! I love you two . . .
