Almost everything is closed. The Millville Public Library closes when someone sneezes. But even the mall has closed for the day. Fritz’s exercise class is shut down as is the pool. A birthday party was moved to next week.

The one thing that is up and running is The Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. They announced yesterday that nothing would keep the curtain closed. The show must go on and all that jazz. Yeah well, we’re not making the drive in this weather. Grrrr . . . another set of tickets down the drain.

The older I become, the less I seem to pay attention to the weather. I tired of the worst storm of the century hype years ago. But it looks like the weather readers nailed this one. I awoke at 4:30 this morning to see lots of snow. I went back to sleep to wake up to even more snow.

What fun!

A Saturday in December right before Christmas makes for a fun day to be snowed in. Gert and I were supposed to go to a party tonight, but that was postponed early in the day. With the prediction of snow lasting all day into the early morning tomorrow, I felt no need to shovel today. And I didn’t.

We took the children outside to play. What wimps! Fritz was very apprehensive. Beetle ventured out, but didn’t like it when Daddy pushed her into the snow. The crying began, everyone was cold, and we hustled inside to where it was warm. Pfffft . . . soon after the family was asleep. Party poopers.

It was then that I tackled the chore of the day. As I said, I didn’t know a storm was coming. As such, I had defrosted a Porterhouse. It seemed like a perfect time to deal with that. I opened the french doors and began shoveling a path to the Performer. I have my priorities correct: leave the automobiles and walkways covered, but tunnel through to the grills.

I lighted the lump and went back inside. I rubbed the steak with a little EVOO, Kosher salt, and fresh cracked pepper. Once the coals were hot, although not as hot as I would have liked (it was blustery today), I slapped that big ol’ piece of beef on. I pulled it at 120°, and let it rest for 10 minutes. I heated some Bush’s beans and a can of carrots. This is by far the best mid-afternoon snack I have ever had. Sometimes it pays to remain awake.

We had a nice peaceful rest of the day. We were snowed in and made the most of it. Gert made perhaps her finest lasagna ever! It was quite tasty. We watched a Christmas movie with the children and then snuggled up on this wintry evening. Perhaps we’ll have a white Christmas this year.
